Back in the day, the game industry was not regarded as an industry in the same way that it is today. It was a small community where only a few companies with a few employees created something in the hopes of being considered a “hobby” for some people, and everyone in this small community seemed to know each other. However, things are very different in today’s era, as gaming has skyrocketed in popularity, particularly in the last decade. Various factors contribute to the sector’s growth, including the rise of home computers and game consoles, improved internet connectivity, and, most importantly, “global smartphone penetration.”

According to the Accenture report, the gaming industry is now worth more than $300 billion, with up to 3 billion players worldwide. The sector now employs a diverse workforce from a variety of backgrounds, including art, programming, design, productions, music, and audio. The rapid pace of technological change has made it more difficult for game developers to keep up with one another, let alone all of the gaming innovations and industry developments.

This is why HotPlay would like to share with you a special list of key gaming events that occur each year around the world. Some of these events are open to all types of game developers, while others have a more limited scope and focus on specific sub-segments of the game development ecosystem. Let’s take a look at these gaming events and see what’s in store for us. You can then learn more about each specific event later on.
